Jasmine Sheffield (Lowe) was bestowed the honor of being the "Silver Cross Lady" for the November 11, 2011 Remembrance Day Ceremony in Collingwood, ON.
The "Silver Cross Mother" has traditionally been a mother of a fallen soldier but the Royal Canadian Legion in Collingwood now selects the wife of a veteran to lay
a wreath at the Cenotaph.
On November 5th, Jasmine and her escort (son Vincent), sat at the head table during the Remembrance Day dinner at the Legion and she delivered a short speech which made the family very proud. Several of Jasmine's other children were in attendance at the dinner and the wreath laying.

Sara Parkes and Darcy Knoll Married in Toronto on June 5th, 2010
Sara is the daughter of Lorraine Sheffield and Clive Parkes. Darcy is the son of Ken and Jackie Knoll of Walkerton, Ontario. Sara and Darcy honeymooned for 3 weeks in Greece and Turkey and have settled in to their new life together in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Congratulations Sara & Darcy. It was a glorious day for all of us who attended.
At his retirement party on October 1, 2009, Herb Wilson said that he was going to spend his time hunting and fishing because he no longer had to book holidays to do so.
On October 8, 2009, Herb put his money where his mouth is when he tagged a
cow moose, estimated at close to 900 LBs. This was after a mere 2 hours in his tree stand on the first day of the hunt near Timmins Ontario.
The Ontario Provincial Police detachment in Wasaga Beach, Ontario is minus one good
man and Sherry will finally get some of those chores done around the house. Ya right.
Congratulations Herb on your well deserved "vacation".
WELCOME EMMA CLAIRE SHEFFIELD... September 10, 2009

knows how to let the world know when she's hungry.

July 26, 2009 - Bryon Sheffield's Special Day
July 26, 2009 was a very special day for Bryon Sheffield of Collingwood. Not only was it his 65th birthday, he also put in his last shift at work
at the Ontario Provincial Police
detachment in Collingwood. On Saturday, the detachment threw a little party at which Bryon and his wife of 45 years, Theresa, were given matching watches. On Sunday evening, Theresa
hosted a little surprise party
for Bryon at their house.
By the sounds of his emails, Bryon has really been looking forward to this and we wish him and Theresa all the best during the next phase of their lives.
Congratulations on both milestones Bryon from all of us!!!

Anthony & Joy Celebrate Hope - July 16, 2007 - Hong Kong
Wow! First of all Joy and Hope are doing amazing. Joy was awesome, as she went all natural all the way!!!, bringing Hope into the world as babies were meant to be brought into the world (except for the screaming Chinese midwives at bed side. haha). This was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced, and can not be more proud of the two most precious people in my life.
Ok here are the stats...

Ray Sheffield - Newcastle Northstars Australian National Ice Hockey Champs Again
September 2-3, 2006 (from www.theaihl.com)
September 3, 2006
The Newcastle North Stars have defeated the Adelaide Avalanche 4-0 in the 2006 AIHL Finals, winning the Goodall Cup for the 2nd consecutive year.
The North Stars, who defeated the Melbourne Ice 6-1 last night, kept up the great defense and shut out the home favourites, goalie Matt Ezzy stingy in not allowing a single puck by him during the game.
The Avalanche made the finals with a 5-2 defeat of hot-running Western Sydney Ice Dogs, advancing to the final and effecting a rematch from last year's final in Newcastle's home rink.
Defensemen Trevor Sherban, retiring both an Australian and Italian national champion, scored the initial and ultimately the winning goal late in the 2nd period, along with further goals to Ray Sheffield, and Gary Zinck.
Matt Ezzy turned away 23 shots, while Avalanche goalie Nigel Ward saved 21 from 25.
The North Stars were presented with the 96 year old Goodall Cup, the ultimate prize in Australian Ice Hockey.
The North Stars will return to Newcastle on Monday, with several players leaving immediately to return to their teams in Europe and Canada.
September 2, 2006
The Newcastle North Stars have run away with their semi final tonight at the Adelaide Ice Arena in the first semi final of the 2006 tournament, scoring two unanswered goals in the first period.
The Ice hit back with a quick goal in the first few seconds of the 2nd period, but were unable to penetrate the North Stars defense for most of the game. The North Stars buried the puck with ease on the powerplay, scoring 6 times from 8 penalties on the Ice. Marcel Kars scored 3 of the North Stars goals with an assist, but it was Nova Scotia defenseman Gary Zinc who top scored with a healthy 5 assists.
Captain Ray Sheffield played his typical big finals game, scoring two goals for the North Stars and leading his team in work ethic and hits. Ryan Crane and Sean Specer gave top scorer Kars plenty of room with lots of skating and hits.
In the later game, the Adelaide Avalanche rode a wave of 2nd period luck to kick on in the third period and put away the form team, the Western Sydney Ice Dogs. Although the Ice Dogs had the majority of possession and control of the game, the Avalanche scored 3 lucky goals in a row with pucks going in off the crossbar or opposition players.
The Avalanche scored again in the third period to put the Ice Dogs under great pressure, and put the puck in an empty net to shut the gate on the ice Dogs season.
Tomorrow night's final between Adelaide and Newcastle will be a rematch from last season. In 2005 the North Stars defeated the Avalanche 3-1 at home, something the Avalanche and their fans would love to see reversed now they are playing in their home rink.

Hey Frank,
Thank you for your diligence in keeping us all abreast of family happenings. I live for your e-mails. It's the only way that I get to know what's going on (that is besides my Mom's newsflashes).
Thank you for your efforts, they are much appreciated. I'm gonna print your email out for Mom( It's sometimes the only way Mom gets hers and let her know about the folks in Glace Bay)
By the way, Fred received his Masters in Elementary Education from C.W. Post University here in New York in May 2004. Please post this. I'm so proud of him! He worked really hard and he only received one B on all of his classes. The rest were all A's! He's "kickin' back" this summer playing golf alot. (Smile) He deserves it.

Team Captain "Super Ray"
Accepts the Cup
We win!! This weekend the Newcastle North Stars played our Semi Final and Grand Final games in Sydney. The first Semi Final Saturday afternoon was between West Sydney Ice Dogs and the Adelaide Avalanche with the Ice dogs winning that game 4-1. We played the second Semi against the Sydney Bears and came out on top 7-4. This set up the final game between us and the Ice Dogs on Sunday. We hadn't lost to these guys all year but they are a bigger team than us and we figured they would try to beat the crap out of us and they did. I scored the opening goal about 10 mins into the game and we had a 1-0 lead after the first. We started the second on fire with 2 quick goals before they came back with one to give us a 3-1 lead at the end of the second. We were the only team to score in the third to give us a 4-1 win and we are now the the Australian National Champions. Never thought I would be the champion of a country. Cool eh? Finished with 1 goal and 2 assists in the final.
Newcastle Northstars 2003 AIHL Champions
The Newcastle Northstars defeated the West Sydney Ice Dogs 4-1 in the AIHL Grand Final. Semi final results were: West Sydney Ice Dogs 4, Adelaide Avalanche 1, Newcastle Northstars 7, Sydney Bears 4.
Gold Medal Game - Newcastle Northstars v West Sydney Ice Dogs
A capacity crowd of 800 complete with cheerleaders, painted faces and various drums added to the electric atmosphere and an expectation of one of the best final games ever. The underrated West Sydney Ice Dogs had a score to settle with the import laden Northstars coached by newly acquired Head Coach, Robert Barnes. This match was going to be a close checking game and FAST!
The Stars struck first on a power play goal at the 11:52 mark when Dogs #3 (Anthony Wilson) was sent off for slashing. Stars #26 (Daryl Bat) and #10 (Pavel Shtefan) combined to feed Stars Captain #19 (Ray Sheffield) who slapped it upstairs over a sprawling #1 (Allan Becken) for the stars first goal. Despite the Dogs having four penalties to the Stars two, the rest of the period remained scoreless with goaltenders Stars #31 (Trevor Battaglia) and Dogs #1 (Allan Becken) turning in stellar performances. End of the first 1- 0 Stars.
At 14:04 of the 2nd, Stars #26 (Daryl Bat) received a pass from #19 (Ray Sheffield) and # 14 (Greg McInnes) to take the Dogs in front 2 - 0. Less than a minute later, the Stars struck again when #19 (Ray Sheffield) and #10 (Pavel Shtefan) setting up #14 (Greg McInnes) for the Stars 3rd goal. At 12:24, Stars #23 (Rick West) drew a two minute minor for High Sticking. The Dogs capitalised with a power play goal from #9 (Martin Jesko) assisted by #3 (Anthony Wilson) and #8 (Jason Haakstad).
The final and 3rd period saw both teams playing fast and discipline hockey. The Stars struck again at the 08:10 mark when #9 (Rob Duchemin) fed #7 (Jake Ludvig) who scored on a missed poke-check by Dogs goaltender #1 (Allan Becken) for the Stars 4th and final goal. The Dogs pressed hard but were unable to prevent the Stars from flowing out of their end with speed and skill. With four minutes remaining an unfortunate incident saw Dogs #3 (Anthony Wilson) hit the boards and suffering a concussion and separated shoulder. The game was delayed for several minutes whilst medics attended to Wilson. On the return, the Dogs gave it their best to level the score and take the game into overtime.
Final score: 4 - 1 Northstars
Shots on Goal:
Northstars #31 Trevor Battaglia 34 for 1 goal
Ice Dogs # 1 Allan Becken 35 for 4 goals

Leonard & Quinn Sheffield Dabble at Modeling Careers
Leonard & Quinn Sheffield
The picture on the left shows Leonard Sheffield and his two year old son Quinn as shown in a local Collingwood newspaper, the Enterprise Bulletin. This ad, which was in the November 8, 2002 issue of the paper, has run several times in several different sizes.
Quinn, who obviously gets his good looks from his mother, Sheryl Sheffield (Luxton), has taken to the camera very well and he certainly isn't afraid to ham it up. Those of you who know Leonard would know that there is no doubt where Quinn's outgoing personality came from.
Leonard and Quinn posed for several other shots, so different ads may appear soon.
Proud mother and grandmother, Jasmine Sheffield (Lowe), is reported to have become the Enterprise Bulletin's best customer as she is filling her closets with the local rag. It is rumoured that she has been negotiating with Collingwood Self Storage over the price of one of their units.
Jasmine Sheffield (Lowe) Turns 70
August 23, 2002 was a very special day for both the Lowes & Sheffields. Jasmine Mabel Sheffield (Lowe) celebrated her 70th birthday. On Sunday, August 25th, Jasmine's son Leonard and his wife Sheryl hosted a surprise party at their home in Wasaga Beach with about 60 relatives and friends in attendance. It was a lovely day, the food was great and the company was fantastic.
Among the highlights were the attendance of Jasmine's sister, Joyce, all the way from New York, and most of Jasmine's other siblings and in-laws from the Toronto area. Also in attendance were most of her Church congregation and most of her friends from her neighbourhood.
Perhaps the highlight of the day, and the thrill of the day for Jasmine, was the rendition of "Happy Birthday" delivered by all of her grandchildren.
The Sheffield family would like to express their deepest sympathy to the Cromwell family of Collingwood for the loss of Edwin Herbert Cromwell (December 10, 1923 - May 14, 2002). "Uncle Ed" was a great friend of the family, a mainstay in our Church and a loving relative to those he has left behind. He will be surely missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mildred and the rest of the Cromwell family.

October, 27 1999 - News From Dianne Davis
Neisha has come back from South Africa, she did extremely well. She
placed 25th in the senior category - she was 14th until those pesky
Russians came in the last flight. Considering all of the kids are her
senior by about 4 - 10 yrs, she did very well. The girl that won was a
blond Russian age 31, & it was her 3rd gold. The best part of the
competition was that she was 1st on the Canadian team & she is now 1st
in Canada. Pretty neat eh? We are very proud of her.
Please visit the Sports Page for more information about Neisha Davis.
Wedding Bells Ring in July 1999

New Additions!
Franklin Richard Sheffield III and his twin brother Daniel William Sheffield have arrived. They are the first born children of Frank Sheffield Jr. and Valerie Hatcher.
The proud grandparents, Harold and Julia Hatcher of Georgetown, Ontario and Jasmine Sheffield (Lowe) are all beaming with joy. Since Harold and Julia are from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland respectively, and Jasmine is from Nova Scotia, we're quite sure the new boys will enjoy fishing and eating seafood.
"The Twins" arrived just three days before Christmas on December 22, 1998 and came home from the hospital on Boxing Day, which meant mom and dad had Christmas turkey in the Georgetown Hospital's cafeteria. Oh well, it was worth it. Richard weighed 5 lbs 10 oz and Daniel weighed 5 lbs 11 oz at birth and mom and babies are doing just fine. To view a picture of the boys, click here, then use your back arrow to return here.
